Software
Service Manager: Michal Zaremba
In the case of networked knowledge, applications need compliant, interoperable, standard software. This can be provided, in a first step, by reference implementations. Reference implementations aim at implementing standards and ensuring compatibility with other standards and references. STI2 facilitates the network effect of a large coalition to cooperate on a joint open source development. The open source development activities are monitored by a dedicated working group. The individual partner organisations are encouraged to join this working group offering their support and collaboration. Following measurements related to open source development are provided:
- STI2 encourages contribution from researchers working at particular partner organizations to software components developed by other sites.
- STI2 provides technological means enabling dissemination of open source components developed at particular project partners.
- The STI2 network brings together expertise of particular partners to achieve synergy effects for open source development.
- STI2 encourages a close cooperation and exchange of ideas related to open source development providing not only a dissemination mechanism but also means of quality control.
STI2 will leverage the experience of STI partner organizations that have contributed to open source development to educate other STI2 partners who have not. STI2 will facilitate the following software services:
- Infrastructure for shared development among members (including also a website providing tutorials for open source development and promoting results of open source development of STI2),
- Source forges for the public release of modules,
- Knowledge repository for members.
