Core Services: Cross-Projects and Member Working Groups
One if not the major service of STI International is to provide an institutionalized cooperation framework for projects and members participating in project clustering efforts. STI International will setup, run, and coordinate “Cross-Projects and Members Working Groups” (short: WG). Such a group works on a generic technological solution which then can be used, extended, and applied within the individual research projects. The aim is to strengthen the synergy and collaboration among several projects that work on similar technologies. A WG should be inline with the respective research roadmaps. The results are usually language specifications, reference architectures, test beds, challenges, which then serve as the basis for standardization within respective International standardization bodies. The participation in WGs is open to STI International members, is recommended for other partners from respective research projects, and is also open to invited external experts.
STI International will specify a framework and a process model for the organization of WGs, and coordinate the work of the groups in order to strengthen the synergy between them and ensure the compatibility or results. Moreover, STI International will define a legal framework for handling the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in order to clearly regulate the use and adaptation of WG results within research projects as well as by industry and other interested parties. STI International will also provide the necessary ICT infrastructure for WGs.
Summarizing, the STI International Cross-Project Working Groups Service provides:
- Basis for cross-project collaboration and shared specifications which serve the basis for joint standardization efforts
- Definition of a process model for organizing and managing the working groups
- Definition of a legal framework for handling IPR and usage rights
- ICT infrastructure for this WGs (email lists, web sites, wikis, document sharing, chat, phone conferences)
