SOFI takes a particular focus on the role that services will play in the Future Internet, the importance and inevitability of a future Service Economy in which Internet-based technology will play a vital role, and on the technical challenges facing an Internet-scale service infrastructure which must be overcome if it is to become reality.

A current cluster of European research projects work towards infrastructures and platforms which would support an Internet of Services. SOFI will coordinate and support European service research within the Future Internet activity.

SOFI's goal is enabling the Internet of Services in the Future Internet by supporting the:
