Within this service, we are building a catalogue of applications of semantic technology, in order to demonstrate concretely what can be achieved and what sort of problems can be solved. This catalogue supports individuals and organizations in better understanding semantic technologies depending on their goals, which could vary from looking for applications for reuse, to identifying people knowledgeable in deploying semantic technologies in a particular domain.
A website to host this catalogue semantic applications has been set up. As a starting point, this website collects information about the systems and technologies deployed by the members of STI, referencing the pointers to these technologies, and highlighting key work in this area (seehere).
Besides providing compelling examples of applications using semantic technologies in various domains, an important element to promote “semantic development” is to provide the adequate pointers to resources summarizing the approaches, methods and tools for semantic web engineers. The readings section of the service’s website (see here) is meant to realize this, collecting a list of articles, books and other resources related to semantic applications, semantic development and semantic programming.
The core of the services however is an evolving catalogue of applications of semantic technologies, gathering comprehensive information about these applications, ensuring that they demonstrate the applicability and added value of semantic technologies in supporting concrete, real life scenarios in various domains, therefore providing an access point to the STI community from the perspective of applications.
The constitution of such a catalogue has to be a continuous task, requiring the contribution and collaboration of the entire STI community. For this reason, we are currently developing the tools underlying this catalogue on top of a semantic wiki, allowing at the same time to easily integrate inputs directly from the developers and practitioners of semantic technologies, as well as the automatic processing of the information contained in the catalogue.
The initial version of this catalogue containing information collected from surveys on semantic tools, in particular from the Knowledge Web semantic tool survey, is planned to be released early 2010 (onthis page).

  • The possibility to promote their developments within a catalogue of high-quality applications
  • The possibility to identify possible collaborations with other application providers
  • The possibility to create collaborations with users having concrete scenarios

Research Projects

  • The possibility to promote the results of their research in concrete case studies
  • The possibility to identify gaps in the current state of applications of semantic technologies
  • The possibility to identify possible collaborations for applying their results

Third Parties

  • A catalogue of concrete, high quality applications demonstrating the added value of semantic technologies
  • An access point with contact information towards expert in deploying semantic technologies
  • Support in identifying potential technology providers for their scenarios
