Semantic Technologies Institutes International startete mit dem Business Brunch am 23. April 2008 erfolgreich seine Veranstaltungsaktivitäten. International renommierte Experten wie Dieter Fensel (STI International), Raphael Volz (FZI Karlsruhe), Marcus Herzog (LIXTO Software GmbH), Karl Baumann (Startblatt) und Dieter Merkl (TU Wien) haben das Anwendungspotential semantischer Technologien in Industrie und Wirtschaft wie auch die künftigen Entwicklungen des Internets präsentiert. Das Semantische Web - auch "Web 3.0" genannt - soll die Suche nach Informationen und die Bewältigung der Informationsflut im Internet erheblich erleichtern, versprechen die Technologieentwickler. Ist die Forschung in Europa bereits weit fortgeschritten, so lässt die Kommerzialisierung semantischer Technologien noch auf sich warten. Für einen großen Durchbruch brauche es eine "Killer-Applikation", meinten Experten bei einer Podiumsdiskussion im Rahmen der von STI International in Zusammenarbeit mit der Österreichischen Computer Gesellschaft organisierten Veranstaltung "Internet of Services" am Mittwochnachmittag in Wien.
