STI International will provide educational activities in the field of Semantics and Semantic technologies for academia and industry - this includes:
- Generation of high-quality training materials for specific target communities
- Development and maintenance of training repositories and expert databases
- Organization of different types of training and educational events
- Provision of different types of training
- Set-up of joint doctoral or exchange/internship programs between research institutions and between researchers and industry and operational support for their implementation
STI International will define, support and establish educational and training activities for the following target communities:
- PhD students: We will define an exchange program between PhD students of the STI International member institutions. PhD students can visit an associated institute for a given period of time thus having the chance to enrich their research background by meeting other people working on related topics. Further support is provided through summer schools and joined PhD schools, symposia, and supervision.
- Professionals: STI International will make an effort to educate industrial parties, for example by organizing tutorials teaching the technologies developed by the different member institutions. This will ensure a proper technology transfer from research to industry, and would benefit each of the members of STI International in the long run.
The European Academy for Semantic-Web Education (EASE) Semantic technologies are becoming an integral part of modern computer systems. A large European community of highly trained young professionals is an important instrument to ensure the sustainability of this achievement in the long run. The European Academy for Semantic-Web Education EASE is the first initiative providing a European Shared Master of Science program in this field. The program is realized in cooperation with six European universities with widely acknowledged contributions to the progress of semantic technologies in the last decades:
The program, completely in English, involves studying one year at one of the above universities, and completing the second year with a stay in another of the partner universities. After this, the student may obtain, together with the European degree issues by the Academy, a national Master of Science degree at each of the visited universities. The program targets students with a bachelor degree from Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related areas. The European Academy for Semantic-Web Education has been defined in cooperation with the EU FP6 Networks of Excellence KnowledgeWeb and Rewerse.
